Learn To Be Content

"But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." I Timothy 6:6-10

How many times do you admire or wish that you could afford to live in that nice neighborhood a few miles away? How often do you look at a certain car and wish you had one just like it, but maybe a different color? Timothy wrote the above verses to warn you and I to not fall into the trap of temptation of wanting bigger and nicer things. The reason is that "things" will not make you happy. You will probably only want more things to find the happiness which you are looking for which is found only in the Lord Jesus Christ. So be careful that you are not tempted by the love of money that can end up destroying you and your family.

You may be one that had everything and now due to your marriage problems or divorce you may have lost everything. Will you choose to be content right now with having a personal relationship with the Lord? Allow the Lord to show you that "godliness with contentment" will give you much more happiness than you can ever imagine. The love of money can take you down many detour roads of evil. The Lord wants you to know that He wants to be first in your life forever. Is He? If not, ask Him to become Savior and Lord of your life right now!

Will you choose to be content in your circumstances today? There is a hymn that was popular in churches many years ago called, "Count Your Blessings." That is what you need to do every day. Yes, count your many blessings that you have right now. You will be surprised how blessed you are compared to many other people. May you know in your heart that bigger and more is not always better, if you have to go into debt.

"For I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength." Philippians 4:11-13

Are you ready every day to fight the good fight of faith? Beware of the enemy who is trying to steal, kill and destroy every Christian family. Watch out for the temptations of the world of greed and buying more than you can afford. The Lord may be blessing you, so that you can bless others. Jesus taught about money many times. Who is your master today, God or Money?

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 'The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! ‘No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.'" Matthew 6:19-24

I know many of you are facing financial crises due to your separation or divorce. Your Lord is the only One that can manage your budget. I know when Bob was gone, we ate a lot of macaroni and cheese, scrambled eggs, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. But God showed me answers to my prayers throughout my stand for every need (not wants) that I had for my family. Yes, my children worked and helped me according to their ages. Ask the Lord and He will give you creative ideas just for your family.

"And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19

Bob and I hurt for the men and women who are losing their homes, cars and children due to nasty divorces. Please go to your Heavenly Father and know that He is the only One that can move your mountain of circumstances. But, you need to know the Word of God and become a doer of the Word of God. You need to give to the Lord regularly as in the widow's mite. You must be obedient to His Word and He will bless you beyond what you ever could imagine.

Allow your Lord to change your heart and mind to be able to walk in godliness and in contentment. There is victory in Jesus Christ!

"Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.' So we say with confidence, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?'" Hebrews 13:5-6
