"I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. My enemies turn back; they stumble and perish before you. For you have upheld my right and my cause; you have sat on your throne, judging righteously." Psalm 9:1-4
Are you praising the Lord every day in spite of your marriage problems? The final spiritual weapon that you need to use daily is praising the Lord. Praise defeats the enemy! As soon as you wake up, choose to praise and thank the Lord that He is the Lord of your life before you are even out of bed.
"I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips. My soul will boast in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt His name together." Psalm 34:1-3
Praise expresses admiration, appreciation and thanks. Praise, according to the Bible Dictionary, is the means by which we express our joy to the Lord. We are to praise God both for who He is and for what He does. Praise is to extol, laud, honor, acclaim and express approval. Our Lord inhabits the praises of His people. He said He will make the rocks cry out if we do not praise Him. (Luke 19:37-40)
Do you feel God's peace, love, His presence and power when you are praising the Lord? When you praise the Lord, your circumstances can suddenly seem smaller and your Lord God will seem more holy, mighty and powerful. God is able to handle any and all of your problems because of His greatness.
Throughout the Bible we read how many men and women of God were put to the test or came to a crossroad having to believe in God or otherwise denying His mighty power. Are you denying His power by not believing in your Lord to revive, restore and rebuild your marriage?
"...But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.' 'If you can?' said Jesus. 'Everything is possible for him who believes.'" Mark 9:22-23
Do you have a deep, personal intimate relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of your life? He wants to be first in your life. He wants you to worship and praise Him in spite of any or all of your circumstances all the time. Do you really know, believe and understand how praises defeats the enemy? As part of your devotions this week read 2 Chronicles 20:1-30.
"As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the LORD your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful." After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: "Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever." As they began to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated." 2 Chronicles 20:20-22
Praise defeats the enemy. Praise takes your problems, your needs, off of your mind and you then focus on God's power, His mercy, His majesty and His love. Praise causes you to remember and appreciate God's character and greatness. Will you start to develop a daily practice of giving praise to your Lord God? You will experience greater joy, greater strength and greater peace as you face your marriage circumstances.
Where do you start? You can start by reading the Psalms. Try to read at least one Psalm a day during your devotion time. As you read them, you will see that most of the Psalms are prayers, and many of the prayers include praises to God. Praise is given to God, not only for what He does, but for His creation, for His blessings, for Him changing lives, for His providing for you and your family, healing your diseases and most of all, for Him forgiving you of your sins.
When you start to do your devotions, put on praise music and try praising the Lord before you start reading the Bible and praying to Him daily.
Let me remind you of a powerful story in Acts 16:22-36 that you can read for your devotions today. Paul and Silas were stripped, beaten and placed in jail in the inner cell. Despite their terrible situation, they started praising the Lord at midnight. They started praying and singing as the other prisoners listened.
No matter what your circumstances are, start learning how to praise your Lord. Imagine what the other prisoners were thinking about them. Then suddenly God intervened and Paul and Silas were delivered by an earthquake. The prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose.
"About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose. The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted, "Don't harm yourself! We are all here!"
"The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household."...The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God--he and his whole family." Acts 16:25-31,34
You may be like Paul and Silas facing huge circumstances. Will you choose to be more like the disciples and sing praises in the midst of your trials and tribulations? I believe in the Lord's mighty power that while you are praising the Lord, He is rescuing and speaking to your spouse. He will break the chains of bondage and set them free from the prison of darkness and sins that they are in. Nothing is too hard for the Lord to do! The Lord wants your whole family saved!
God wants you to learn on this Lord's Day to trust Him, praise Him and then watch Him work in you and your spouse's heart! Will you start praising the Lord daily and see what the Lord will accomplish in your life and in your marriage? Will you start to use all your spiritual weapons daily?
"Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom." Psalm 145:3
